How To Clean Your Kitchen Sink
Disclaimer: There are many ways to clean your kitchen sink. This is just how I clean mine.
I have tried many ways over the years, and this one gets my sink clean and shiny.
That said, use my kitchen sink cleaning hacks at your own discretion, and always spot-test before using any cleaning product.
Here is my weekly routine for cleaning the kitchen sink.

How To Clean A Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink
Step 1: Clear the sink of all dishes and rinse.
Before cleaning the kitchen sink, empty it of all dishes, food scraps, and other debris.
Step 2: Use a few drops of dish soap, a brush, and a sponge to scrub the sink.
Once your sink is nice and clear of dishes, trash, and debris, add a few drops of dish soap and scrub it thoroughly with a sponge and a brush to get into the crevices, including the areas around the faucet, the soap dispenser, and the sink strainers.
Scrub every inch of the sink. Add additional dish soap if needed.
Once you have thoroughly scrubbed your sink and surrounding areas, rinse them off.
Step 3: Disinfect the kitchen sink
After rinsing the soap thoroughly (make sure it is 100% rinsed off), use your preferred disinfectant to disinfect the sink.
I use disinfecting bleach. And i follow the directions on the bottle to diluture approproatly for disifecting purposes.
I add it to a bottle I have designated for bleach only and spray it on the sink evenly. Let it sit for the recommended time, then rinse it thoroughly.
How To Clean Your Kitchen Faucet
Step 4: Remove grimy buildup from the faucet spout using distilled vinegar.
Vinegar is the best and easiest way to clean your kitchen faucet spout, and it is one of my favorite kitchen sink cleaning hacks!
Place white distilled vinegar in a bag, then secure it with a rubber band or hair tie to remove grimy stuff from the faucet spout.
About 1 cup of vinegar should be enough. Tie the bag around the faucet spout with a rubber band (as shown below).
Let it soak for at least an hour; this should help lift all the grimy stuff from the faucet spout.
You can then use a narrow brush paired with a bit of dish soap to completely scrub off all the remaining grime.
I also use a toothpick to make sure I get everything out of the little hole.
This should leave your faucet spout free of gunk and nice and clean again!
How To Make Your Stainless Steel Sink Shine
Step 5: Gently scrub the sink with Bar Keepers Friend, then Rinse Off.
Here is how to make your sink shine:
Pour a generous amount of Bar Keepers Friend cleaner on your sink.
Then lightly scrub your sink with a sponge, focusing on stains (such as rust or similar stains). Use a different sponge from the one you used to scrub with the soap.
After scrubbing, ensure that the product has covered the entire sink. Leave the Bar Keepers Friend on for at least 5 minutes, then rinse off thoroughly.

Step 6: With a rag, dry and buff the sink to shine.
Once you have rinsed off the Bar Keepers Friend cleaner from the sink, dry and buff it to make it nice and shiny.
Use one rag to dry it completely, then one to buff it.
Put a small amount of Bar Keepers Friend on the dry, clean rag, then buff until the sink is shiny and evenly buffed.

Sink Cleaning Essentials
1. Dish Soap
2. Sponge
I usually use an old sponge to clean my sink. So whenever I replace our dish sponge, I keep it to clean other areas of our home, like the sink. I highly recommend doing that rather than buying designated sponges.
3. Bar Keepers Friend
Bar Keepers Friend is amazing, and I use it to clean many spaces in my home. I LOVE how clean it gets my sink and how easily it removes stains! I linked this one from Walmart, but you can also view it on Amazon; it’s just a bit more expensive there!
4. Rags
These rags are the best, and I use them to clean every room in our home. (except the bathroom) I love that they are all white, making it easier to wash and disinfect them all at once. I use these to dry and buff the sink after the Bar Keepers Friend.
5. White Distilled Vinegar + Bags
As I shared earlier in this post, I usually get our vinegar at Walmart and tie sandwich bags around the sink. However, you can also use recycled bags if you have any handy. Tie the bag really tight with the rubber band so the vinegar doesn’t spill.
How to Keep Your Sink From Getting This Dirty Again
Deep cleaning your sink is satisfying, but what really keeps it manageable is routine.
At home, I avoid letting the sink get bad by doing quick daily resets, a weekly scrub, disinfect and polish, and rotating deep cleans throughout the year.
This routine keeps the buildup manageable.
If you want a step-by-step system for every room, my Complete Home Cleaning System lays out exactly how to schedule and maintain these tasks to keep your entire home manageable and clean year-round.
