Do you need shower head cleaning hacks that make cleaning your shower head easy? This post shows you how to clean a shower head without removing it.
Earlier this year, I wrote a post listing the places most people forget to clean in their homes. One of them was the shower head! The shower head is just one of those areas people use daily, yet most don’t clean it as regularly as they should.
Because it can be so tedious to clean, it is easy to put it off. However, cleaning your shower head DOESN’T need to take a long time or much effort.
In this post, we share how to clean a shower head without removing it, and it’s actually super easy to do! So, if youre in need of cleaning hacks that save you time, this one is worth trying!

How To Clean A Shower Head Without Removing It
Step 1. Fill a Zipper Bag With 1-2 Cups of Vinegar
To clean your shower head without removing it, fill a gallon-size zipper bag with 1-2 cups of vinegar. Then, you’ll need to use a rubber band to secure the zipper bag containing the vinegar onto the shower head. Soak the shower head in vinegar, ensuring the shower nozzle is fully submerged, then let it sit.
Here is how your zipper bag should be tied/secured to the shower head.

Step 2. Leave the Zipper Bag Tied to the Shower Head for at Least 30 minutes
You can leave it more if needed. It really depends on how much buildup has accumulated in the shower head. But usually, about 30 minutes is enough time to lift all the gunk from the shower head.
Disclaimer: Always test before trying a new cleaning method/product. I would check the shower head every few minutes the first time you clean it. Only to make sure the vinegar doesn’t damage your shower head finish,

Step 3. Remove the Zipper Bag and Scrub the Shower Head
Once you remove the zipper bag, you’ll see all the grime lifted off the shower head. It will be floating around in the vinegar bag.
Although the vinegar will lift most of the gunk from the shower head, you’ll likely still need to scrub a bit to get it out of all the little holes.
How to clean shower holes? The easiest way to clean the shower holes is to use an old toothbrush to scrub and a toothpick to clear everything from each little hole. Finish by rinsing, and your shower head should be nice and clean.
Step 4. Rinse the Shower Head, and You’re all Done
Lastly, you’ll need to give your shower head a quick rinse to finish. The shower head should be clean. You will definitely notice a huge difference when you shower next!
Super easy, right? I hope you found this vinegar showerhead hack helpful!

How to Minimize Shower Head Build-Up
To effectively prevent buildup in your shower head, regularly scrub the nozzle. I recommend keeping an old toothbrush in the shower for this purpose. Every other week, while you shower, give your showerhead a quick scrub. By maintaining this routine, you will reduce nozzle buildup and minimize the need for frequent deep cleaning.
I also recommend rotating tasks like this into your deep cleaning schedule so you can make sure you deep clean them a few times per year, keeping hard water from getting out of control.
This task is part of the same layered system I use throughout my home. If you need help with a cleaning system, you can find my full cleaning system here.
