How To Deep Clean Your House | By Room:

Suggestions and Tips

1. Tidy Up Room Before Deep Cleaning

Before deep cleaning any room, I suggest starting by removing any miscellaneous items that do not belong in that room. I also suggest tidying up the room. Do not do any deep cleaning at this point, only do a quick surface clean. By doing this before diving into deep cleaning, you give yourself a clean slate to start with. And this will allow you to concentrate on deep cleaning once you get started and not worry about the miscellaneous mess. Additionally, it helps make the process go much smoother and less overwhelming and daunting.

2. Purge And Declutter

For the best results, I also suggest purging/decluttering each room before you deep clean it. It is up to you how ruthless you want to be with purging. But I usually go through each drawer, cabinet, basket, closet, and purge as much as possible. However, if you struggle to let go of things, you can start by purging items that are stained, torn, or just damaged in any way. After that, if you can get rid of more, great, but if not at least you got rid of items you definitely do not use or need.

3. Clean From Top To Bottom

When cleaning, I suggest starting from the top and making your way down. I prefer this way because as you dust, wipe, etc. everything under will collect all that dust and dirt, so this way you only clean each area once. So you start with the ceilings and end with the floors. I follow the order in the deep cleaning checklist and recommend following it in that order too. However, you can also follow it in whatever order is easiest and makes the most sense to you.

Cleaning Essentials:

Here are my cleaning essentials. Obviously, I use other cleaning supplies such as gloves, scrubbers, sponges, spray bottles, paper towels, a vacuum (I still don’t have a favorite one to recommend), etc. But these are my must-haves and that I use religiously to get my house sparkling clean.

Disclaimer: Please, please, please always read the labels on cleaning products for proper use and handling. Also, always try a small spot of whatever it is you’re cleaning so that you don’t end up ruining your stuff.

General Cleaning Essentials

1. Swiffer Duster

View on Amazon

This duster is a must-have for deep cleaning your house. It’s great to dust literally everything. Your ceiling, vents, frames, ceiling fans, etc. I love that the dust sticks to it rather than flying all over the place.

I have used the same stick for years and I just buy the replacements as needed and it is still going strong.

2. Spin Mop

View on Amazon

This is not the exact mop I have, but it’s pretty much the same thing. I got my spin mop from my mom but she bought it in a little store by her house, so I was not able to find the exact one online. But this one has insanely good reviews and everyone raves about it. Also, I seriously don’t know how I ever mopped without a spin mop. They are seriously the best and make mopping 95% less miserable.

3. Windex Original

View on Amazon

Windex is a must-have cleaning essential on my list! And I highly recommend it. And I don’t only use it for windows and mirrors; I use it to get my faucets shiny and streak-free. I also use it to remove streaks from surfaces such as a stove, microwave, dishwasher, etc. Seriously, Windex is the best! So if you have been dealing with streaky surfaces after cleaning, then you need to try Windex.

4. Bar Keepers Friend

View on Walmart

I recently started using Bar Keepers Friend in liquid form and WOW! It is much better than the powder form. I use it to clean my stovetop, and sink, remove rust stains and even use it to clean the shower and toilet bowl. It’s seriously great and a definite must-have!

5. Clorox Disinfecting Bleach

View on Walmart

Clorox disinfecting bleach is another staple for me. Because I don’t only use it for my laundry. I also use it to clean and disinfect my floors, walls, doorknobs, light switches, cutting boards, inside the fridge, toilet bowl, dishwasher, trash bins, etc. So it’s definitely handy for so much!

6. Powdered Tide

View on Amazon

So I know when you see Tide you think wait that’s for laundry. But I am here to tell you that it is not just for laundry. I also use this to clean my floors, walls, doors, kitchen door cabinets, our shoes, and of course our laundry, and many other surfaces. I learned this hack from @gocleanco on Instagram and I’ve never gone back. Because it’s seriously genius!

7. Rags

View on Amazon

If you struggle with finding good cleaning rags, you have got to try these! I bought these from a recommendation by @gocleanco as well, and they are seriously the best! And I use mine strictly for cleaning (except in the bathroom; I use paper towels) and nothing else. Also, they are great because they don’t leave any lint behind! As I said, I use them to clean everything and I usually wait till they are all dirty to wash and disinfect them all in one load.

Kitchen Cleaning Essentials

8. Drain Cleaner

View on Amazon

I used to clean my garbage disposal with baking soda and vinegar and I still do sometimes when I don’t have this handy. However, with this product, you can seriously tell the difference in your garbage disposal when you use it. And it not only cleans it, but it takes away the stinky smell!

9. Oven Cleaner

View on Walmart

Is your oven overdue for a deep clean? This oven cleaner is the best to clean inside your oven. It makes cleaning the oven so much easier and requires little to no elbow grease!

Bathroom Cleaning Essentials

10. Clorox Disinfecting Spray

View on Walmart

If there is one room that needs to be disinfected, it’s the bathroom! So that’s why I love this spray. I use it to disinfect the toilet inside and out, sink, countertops, bathtub, etc. And I use it after I am done scrubbing/cleaning all the surfaces. I spray it and let it sit for the recommended time and then rinse/wipe it off.

11. Toilet Bowl Cleaner

View on Walmart

I also love using this toilet bowl cleaner to clean the toilet bowl. It does such a great job!
