This post is all about mastering a deep clean without the stress.

Woman organizing a clean kitchen with the Complete Home Cleaning System checklists.

If you’re not sure where to start on how to deep clean your house and are looking for a system you can finally stick to without the overwhelm, or you’re simply looking for a detailed checklist you can follow, you’re in the right place.

A freshly cleaned home always helps me feel calm, focused, and more productive. Motivated by this, I’m always trying out new cleaning tips and tricks to make deep cleaning quicker and easier.

When I became a mom of 2 and found I didn’t have as much “free” time as I once did. I knew I needed a better plan to maintain our home. That’s when I created this 3-layer Complete Home Cleaning System, and it completely changed how I clean my home.

After using this method for years, I decided to turn it into easy-to-use checklists. Initially, I kept it in notes on my phone, but I found that checking things off on paper felt much more satisfying. Over time, I refined several versions to get the layout just right, and now it’s exactly how I want it.

Below, you’ll find free versions of my 3-layer Complete Home Cleaning System: the Daily Reset Checklist, Weekly Maintenance Checklist, and the Deep Clean Rotation Checklist. For those who prefer everything in one place, we also offer these checklists as a paid option: The Complete Home Cleaning System—the same ones I use at home every day. Read on to figure out which option best fits your needs!

Quick Guide: How The Cleaning System Works

The Deep Clean Rotation Checklist might look like a lot at first. You may ask yourself, “How am I supposed to get all of this done?” But you are not expected to tackle everything at once.

You can do everything in one big deep clean if that is how you prefer to clean. But I designed this checklist to go along with the Daily Home Reset Checklist and the Weekly Maintenance Checklist.

These three Home Cleaning Checklists serve different purposes. Here’s the “gist” of the main idea behind this Complete Home Cleaning System.

  • Daily Home Reset Checklist: Keeps your home manageable each day.
  • Weekly Maintenance Checklist: Stops messes from piling up. You can sprinkle these into your daily checklist routine or do them all at once on your days off or weekends.
  • Deep Clean Rotation Checklist: Pick one to three tasks from the deep clean list and add them to your weekly routine wherever they fit best.

When you add these deeper cleaning tasks to your weekly schedule, you naturally stay on track with deep cleaning. By the end of the year, you’ll have finished all the deep clean tasks without burning out or feeling like you’re always behind.

And that is it. No marathon cleaning days or weeks. No overhwlem. Just a realistic cleaning rhythm that requires only consistency, not perfection.

Below you’ll find all the Free Cleaning Checklists, as well as the paid option.

Free Cleaning Checklists vs. The Complete Home Cleaning System: Which is Right for You?

I understand that choosing to pay for a product is not always easy. That’s why I offer free options for anyone who wants a simple checklist they can follow without committing to a purchase. The free Daily, Weekly, and Deep Cleaning Checklists are all great ways to get started immediately.

Below, I’ve broken down the main differences between the Free Deep Clean Checklist (daily and weekly, too) and the paid option, The Complete Home Cleaning System, so you can decide which one works best for your needs. The Complete Home Cleaning System is the exact version I use at home every day.

Deep Cleaning Routine: Your Questions Answered

How long does it take to deep clean a house?

A full deep clean of a house usually takes between 8 and 20 hours, depending on the size of your home. But if you use a deep-clean rotation system, you can avoid those long cleaning marathons. By adding deep-cleaning tasks to your daily or weekly routine, you get them done bit by bit. This way, you keep your home clean without spending hours cleaning.

What is the difference between regular cleaning and deep cleaning?

For regular cleaning, pay attention to visible surfaces, such as tidying up, maintaining the floors, and wiping down counters. Deep cleaning is for bigger jobs or hard-to-reach areas, such as cleaning the oven, washing the windows, descaling shower heads, and thoroughly cleaning the refrigerator.

3. How often should you deep clean your house?

Many experts recommend deep cleaning your home twice a year, usually before spring and fall. But for most people, that’s just not realistic. Seasonal cleaning can take hours or even days. Instead, I recommend a three-layer cleaning system, like The Complete Home Cleaning System. By adding deep-cleaning tasks to your weekly routine, your home can stay deeply clean year-round without feeling overwhelmed or spending days deep-cleaning.

4. Where do you start when deep cleaning a room?

When you deep-clean a room, start at the top and work your way down. For example, dust the ceiling fans and crown molding first. Next, clean the walls and windows, and finish with the floors. This way, dust and debris won’t fall onto areas you’ve already cleaned, which saves you time and effort. You can use this approach for your daily and weekly cleaning too.
