Must-Have House Cleaning Supplies

household cleaning supplies

1. Vacuum

View on Amazon

When it comes to house cleaning supplies, a vacuum is a must-have, regardless of whether you have floors or carpet. This is the vacuum I have, and it works great! There are so many vacuums at so many different price points. Still, this one was just right for everything it offers, and all for a pretty affordable price, especially compared to others.

However, when buying a vacuum, make sure it has all the qualities based on the needs of your home. If you prefer a vacuum with no cord, this vacuum wouldn’t be a good option; aside from that, it’s a great vacuum with excellent suction and great attachments.

2. Swiffer Duster

View on Amazon

The Swiffer duster is a must-have for any house cleaning checklist. It’s perfect to reach higher and lower areas alike. The Swiffer retains all the dust, so you won’t have to worry about all that dust dispersing when you dust in higher areas of your home. The dust sticks to the Swiffer duster, making cleaning up dust more effortless.

3. Pumice Stone

View on Amazon

I’ve recently started using the pumice stone and won’t ever look back. I use it on my stove to remove hard-to-remove burnt spots and inside the oven to remove any remaining burnt spots that the oven cleaner did not get out. It’s also perfect for in-between deep cleans. It’s also great for inside the toilet bowl and bathtub for hard-to-remove stains that other cleaners won’t get out.

4. Gloves

Gloves are a must-have in any house cleaning supplies list. When cleaning, youre dealing with products that dry up your hands and are not ideal to touch directly for prolonged periods.

So, having gloves for your cleaning days is essential. I like having reusable ones for cleaning my kitchen, dishes, windows, etc., and I also keep a box of disposable ones for cleaning the bathroom. Your hands will thank you!

5. Spin Mop

View on Amazon

Another non-negotiable regarding a house cleaning supplies list is the spin mop! I will never use any other mop other than a spin mop. I even prefer this over the floor-cleaning vacuums.

These are the best ways to get your floors super clean, and you can buy different mop heads for other areas of your home. If you do not own a spin mop yet, you should definitely get one. You will NOT regret it,

6. Razor Blade Scraper

View on Amazon

You NEED a razor blade scraper if you do not already own one. I mainly use it when I am moping. There is always something stuck on the floors that the mop won’t pick up.

But I also use it throughout my home, like on my windows. You’d be surprised by how much use you will get from these. You can also use it for your glass stove top to remove any stuck residue.

7. Brushes

Brushes to scrub crevices will help you take your home from clean to super clean! Get any and all sizes of brushes you can find! I’ve linked a few that I love from Amazon; however, I have purchased some brushes at the dollar store and other random stores over the years.

I would also grab a pack of toothpicks and keep that in your cleaning caddy. These help reach crevices that a brush won’t.

8. Multi-Purpose Silicon Squeegee

View on Amazon

A silicon squeegee will be one of your most used cleaning products. You’ll need it to clean your shower doors, windows, sliding doors, and shower walls. It’s also the perfect size to fit in a cleaning caddy.

9. Hand Held Steamer

View on Amazon

I got this steamer a few years ago to clean my grout and have since found so many other areas in my home that would only get as clean with this.

If you haven’t already, you need to try this on your window and sliding door seals. It will leave them so clean. I use it all over my home and car to reach all the crevices that I otherwise would not be able to. This will not only clean all those areas but also disinfect them.

10. Cotton Rags

View on Amazon

These rags are hands down the best for cleaning! They are essential in my household cleaning products list. This pack comes with more than enough rags, and they will last you for a very long time, and are inexpensive to replace as you need.

I use these to clean everything in my home except the bathroom. And you don’t have to worry about them getting really dirty. You can throw them in the washer with bleach and Tide detergent; they will come out super clean!

11. Microfiber Rags

View on Amazon

Microfiber rags are a must-have in your cleaning supplies list. Personally, I use them to dry and buff surfaces and apply oils. I prefer to use these white rags to do most of the cleaning since I can throw them in the washer with bleach to get them super nice and clean. I also use different-colored rags for different surfaces, which helps ensure you do not mix cleaning products or cross-contaminate from various surfaces.

12. Magic Eraser

View on Amazon

The Magic Eraser is just that—a magic eraser! You’ll find use for it all throughout your home and even in your car. It’s great for removing scuffs from walls and furniture. A box lasts me forever, so it’s definitely worth buying.

13. Tide Powder Laundry Detergent Original

View on Amazon

Tide powder and hot water will clean pretty much your whole house! I use it to clean everything in my house: walls, floors, bathrooms, and even my car.

All you need is a gallon of water, 1 teaspoon of Tide powder, and many rags! I like using hot water. You can also mix 1/3 cup of bleach if you are disinfecting the space you’re cleaning. Otherwise, just water and Tide. I learned this method from @gocleanco years ago and have used it ever since.

14. Dawn Dish Soap And Dawn Power Wash

View on Amazon

View on Amazon

I love Dawn Dish Soap! Of course, I use it for dishes, but I also use it for many other places in my home, so I usually purchase a large container. You can check out their website to see all the ways and places you can use Dawn Dish Soap.

But I use it to clean greasy areas such as my cabinet doors and car wheels, grease grime in appliances, greasy stains in laundry and windows, and so much more! Depending on what I am cleaning, I use the Dawn Powerwash or the Dish Soap.

15. Windex Original Glass Cleaner

View on Amazon

Windex is another household cleaning product you cannot live without. I use it on windows, mirrors, glass frames and decor, glass tables, glass doors, glass microwaves, and glass stove tops. I even use it on faucets to leave them streak-free.

16. Bleach

Bleach is a must for disinfecting. I use Bleach to disinfect everything! After cleaning your home, follow the directions on the bottle to disinfect it. Remember to disinfect your floors, too, especially if you have kids and dogs!

17. Clorox Disinfectant with Bleach and Without

18. Bar Keepers Friend Liquid Cleanser

View on Target

I LOVE Bar Keepers Friend and use it in so many spaces in my home that I could not clean my house without it. I mainly use it to clean the toilet bowls, buff our stainless steel sink, and clean the rusty areas I find around our home, my cookware, and the bathtub, as well as to deep clean our grill.

But there are so many spaces you can clean with Bar Keepers Friend. Check out their website to view the long lists of spaces you can clean around your home with Bar Keepers Friend. A definite must-have for any house cleaning kit!

19. Heavy Duty Oven Cleaner

I use this sparingly, once or twice a year, when my oven gets out of control, especially after holiday cooking. This Heavy-Duty Oven Cleaner will leave your oven looking brand new! However, like all other clean products, read the instructions before use for safe and best results.

If you have a self-cleaning oven, then youll need this one instead. This version is safe for self-cleaning ovens.

20. Goo Gone Adhesive Remover

View on Amazon

Goo Gone Adhesive removal is not something you necessarily NEED to have to get your home clean. Still, I highly recommend having at least a small bottle handy, as you will be surprised how much you will use it once you have it.

21. FOLEX Instant Carpet Spot Remove

View on Amazon

This Folex Instant Carpet Spot Remover is a must-have for keeping your couches clean and even for spot-cleaning carpets between deep cleanings. So, if you’ve been looking for a good fabric spot remover that actually works, this is the one!

22. Murphy Oil Soap

View on Amazon

This is a must-have for wood floors. Follow the directions on the bottle, and your wood floors will look amazing! This is especially great if you have ever overused wood oils to give your wood floors a shine. It will help lift up all that built-up oil from those products that leave your floors looking dirty and slippery over time.

Broom + DustPan

A broom and a dustpan are always essential cleaning tools, even if you own a vacuum. I love to keep a small broom and dustpan accessible, making it easy for quick clean-ups or even to get into areas the vacuum can’t reach. I actually get mine at Dollar Tree, as they are small and not bulky, so they only take up a little space.

24. Ziplocks (Gallon Size and Sandwich Size)

View on Walmart

View on Walmart

Zipper bags are perfect for faucet cleaning. I keep zipper bags handy, and when my kitchen or bathroom faucets have built-up gunk or hard water stains, I fill the bag with white vinegar, tie the bag around the faucet with a rubber band, and let it sit for a while to get all that gunk out. Check out this post for more details.

25. Vinegar

View on Walmart

I don’t use vinegar for much other than cleaning the built-up faucets/showerheads in the kitchen and bathroom. Submerge your gunky faucet in a bag with vinegar, let it sit, and youll be shocked at how much gunk it removes with ease.

House Cleaning Supplies Q&A:

What is the best thing to clean a house with?

The best way to clean your house is with Powder Tide and Bleach. You can clean your entire home with those two products. I would also say Dawn dish soap, but you cannot mix that with Bleach. If you can only get a few cleaning products, I would buy Tide powdered detergent, disinfecting Bleach, and Dawn dish soap for greasy areas.

How can I clean my house like a professional?

Want to know how to clean your house like a professional? The best tip is to clean from top to bottom. Start dusting and wiping your ceiling, lighting fixtures, and baseboards, and make your way down. This way, you will not miss a thing! And you will avoid having to come back and clean up dust and debris that falls from ceilings and baseboards.

How to deep clean your whole house?

If you want to deep clean your whole house, my best advice is to break it down by room and task. If you want to get into every crevice and miss nothing, we have a deep house cleaning checklist you can download for free, and we also have a Complete Home Cleaning System you can purchase here.

What is the correct order to clean a house?

The correct order to clean a house is to start at the top and work your way down. This helps ensure you do not miss anything. It is also the smartest way to clean, as you do not have to double-clean when dust and debris fall from the ceilings after you’ve already cleaned the floors.
